Bruins to Host Women in Sports Night on March 29 Against Toronto – NHL.com

BOSTON – The Boston Bruins will host Women in Sports Night on Tuesday, March 29, during their home game against the Toronto Maple Leafs at 7 p.m. at TD Garden.

The night will highlight women who work and compete in the sports community, including athletes and Bruins staff. Tuesday’s national anthem will be performed by April Cushman of Swanzey, New Hampshire, who has sung both the Canadian and National anthems at sporting events with the Bruins, Boston Celtics, Boston Red Sox, New England Revolution and NASCAR. Currently a full-time musician with her debut album recently released in 2021, Cushman was recognized by The Women of Country as one of “Women in Music’s Top 20 Females of 2021.”

Active duty Staff Sergeant Kathryn Branthoover of the United States Air Force will be Tuesday’s 8-Spoked recipient. A Leominster, Massachusetts native, Staff Sergeant Branthoover has served two tours of duty in Iraq and Kuwait and was one of the first women to train and enable Iraqi forces with Coalition Forces. Throughout her career, Staff Sergeant Branthoover has received numerous medals and awards, including the Air Force Achievement Medal and Air Force Longevity Service Award.

The PA for Tuesday’s game will be Jayme Parker, who served as the Bruins PA for the first time in 2019. During that game, Parker and in-arena host Michaela Johnson became the first all-women duo to host a Bruins game in team history.

Tuesday’s Kid’s Captain, presented by Arbella Insurance, will be Sofia Callahan, an 11-year-old center of the Lower Cape Coyotes hockey team. Elizabeth Donovan, a freshman wrestler at Pelham High School in New Hampshire, will be recognized as the Zam rider. Donovan became the first female wrestling champion from New Hampshire to win a Division title, defeating many of the top male and female wrestlers in the state to do so.

Additionally, Bruins Game Presentation Coordinator Liz Argento will serve as Tuesday’s producer. This will include coordinating with Parker and Johnson and calling all aspects of the game, including goals and penalties, in the control room. Hailey Clements, the Bruins Marketing Coordinator, will collaborate with Argento and the rest of the Bruins staff to help facilitate game presentation aspects throughout Tuesday night.

NESN will also be highlighting women in sports during Tuesday’s broadcast, including a special feature on the trailblazing Massachusetts-based women’s hockey team, the Massport Jets, as well as a “Day in the Life” feature showcasing NESN’s own associate producer, Paige Capistran, who plays defense on the Boston Pride.
