“It’s strange, it feels like 10 p.m. right now,” he said after Saturday’s matinee 4-1 win over Ottawa, realizing he had to do it all again in a few hours. “I haven’t seen daylight yet today. But this serves a purpose for me and for us.”

In addition to getting the Leafs and Sens an extra game without travel, it makes taking Sunday off more logical for Toronto after the first two days of intense camp practice.

And at least Keefe didn’t have to think up an all-new pre-scout presentation for the second group of Leafs who began arriving around 5 p.m.

Cleaners raced through the SBA  stands to spruce up things after about 15,000 attended the first game, needing  to be ready for doors open at 6 p.m.

Winger Wayne Simmonds had little interest in hanging around SBA to watch the night cap after playing early.

“I’m going home to play with my girls and watch on TV,” he said.
