Andrew Tumilty’s first foray into strategic political communications was as a volunteer with the Ontario Liberal Party, where he spearheaded connect development and production.

Since then, he’s led social media and political campaigns for former Toronto mayoral candidate David Soknacki and Scarborough-Rouge River Liberal MP Gary Anandasangarre, among others.

Following the success of his campaign in 2015, Tumilty joined the federal Liberal Party as a full-time community manager, according to his LinkedIn page. He also completed a brief stint at the Daisy Consulting Group before heading up Tory’s mayoral re-election war room in 2018.

“It was a fantastic opportunity. We were campaigning for six months, so pretty much the entire period of the election,” Tumilty recounted about his time on the campaign in an iPolitics interview.

“Because it was municipal and because he has a broad spectrum of support (I) was able to gain inside into cross-aisle issues while working towards a common goal.”

While he was working on social media and communications throughout Toronto, Tumilty met several Enterprise leads, including Supriya Dwivedi, who introduced him to the firm,

Prior to signing onto his new role as a senior consultant with Enterprise, he took a brief break from politics to tackle media relations at Waterfront Toronto, a municipal initiative aimed at revitalizing and preserving the city’s waterfront area.

“There are a lot of lessons in strategic communications from campaigns that are applicable in the private sector, like acting quickly, honing in on messages that work for each audience,” he told iPolitics.

As a new voice at the firm, Tumilty said his aim is to help clients look at the political landscape and craft effective issues management strategies.

“Andrew is exactly the type of individual we look for at Enterprise,” said Enterprise President Jason Lietaer in a statement posted to the firm’s social media account.

“His campaign experience, coupled with his time in the private sector, give him the skills and winning mindset to deliver for our clients.”
