There are massive line-ups at the airports, people can’t get passports, but Justin Trudeau is looking after the issues that matter to Canadians — guns and abortion,
The Prime Minister showed again this week that the government is all about serving his agenda rather than the people of Canada.
In Vancouver, air travellers have been advised to arrive hours ahead of time for weeks now. At Pearson, flights are being delayed and flight attendants are effectively working for free waiting for planes to take off.
The calls from the industry are for the government to hire more security screeners and to drop COVID travel requirements that experts say are no longer required. The government’s response is to blame travellers.
Speaking to reporters earlier this week, Alghabra said many people aren’t used to travel anymore and they forget all the things that need to be done.
“Taking out the laptops, taking out the fluids, all that adds 10 seconds here, 15 seconds there,” he said.
Blaming the traveller when the problem is the government isn’t a smart move for a man who should know better. When a department is failing, the minister should fix the department, not lecture the public it is there to serve.
Over at Passport Canada, things have gotten so bad that people are paying others to stand in line for them just to keep a spot. The Liberals may consider this job creation but it’s not the kind the government should want.
This department used to be known for their exceptional speed and customer service, now it’s a laughing stock. And neither the minister, Sean Fraser, nor the wider government have answers on how to fix this. This too is a problem that’s been going on for weeks, that the government is well aware of but apparently unable to act on.
Perhaps that’s because they are busy playing politics pushing new regulations on law-abiding gun owners and claiming it will make streets safer. When they aren’t doing that, they’re busy coming up with ways to protect access to abortions in Canada from a still to be released court decision in the United States of America.
On Wednesday, the Liberals were in their fully glory, aping the American Democratic Party with announcements on guns and abortion on the same day. Neither of which will solve any real problems for the vast majority of Canadians but allow the Liberals to virtue signal to their base that they are the party that cares about all the right progressive issues.
We apologize, but this video has failed to load.
It also allows them to play wedge politics with the Conservatives who are in the middle of their leadership campaign. There are plenty of partisan political reasons for Trudeau and the Liberals to be focusing on these issues this week but no practical ones.
Remarkably, Trudeau accused the Bloc Quebecois of playing wedge politics by introducing a motion to remove the non-denominational prayer said at the opening of the House of Commons each day.
Trudeau really can’t help himself can he?
The man relishes in attacking others for playing politics in the exact manner that he does. The crazy thing is, due to a far too compliant press gallery, he gets away with it.
There are serious problems at the airports, serious problems at the passport office, both of which are directly the fault of the government in Ottawa. This is hurting the ability of Canadians to travel freely, it is starting to hurt the economy, and will have serious repercussions if not fixed before the first real tourism season in two years gets underway.
It’s time for Trudeau and his government to put Canadians first instead of looking after his own political needs.
